Bob, Barbara and Family

Aden, Matt and Bob with Kugel in their Back Yard

Bob's Story

After high school graduation, I attended the Academy of Aeronautics for one year and dropped out. I found a job at Sperry Gyroscope Company as a tech illustrator and worked there until 1964 when I was drafted and served two years in the army stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Discharged in 1966, I went back to Sperry until 1970. That year, (at age 29), I enrolled as a full time student at Nassau Community College and than on to Stony Brook University where I got a BA in anthropology in 1974. I also met my wife Barbara there. We were married that summer and we both went off to graduate school at the University of Kansas.

My son Matthew was born in 1980. He graduated from Emerson College (film major) in 2001 and now lives in California. I received my Ph.D. in biological anthropology in 1981 and the three of us came back east so that I could do Post Doctoral research at the University of Connecticut Dental School.

In 1984 our second son, Aden, was born and I continued on at UCONN as an assistant professor. In 1987 we bought a house in Southington, CT where we continue to live. I took a new job in 1994 at the Connecticut Department of Public Health as a research analyst.

Since I enjoy my work and my youngest son just started college, (UCONN, ROTC scholarship, bio major), I plan to continue working at least until I am 65. Barbara works in the Southington School System Athletic Department and spends her free time making beautiful quilts.

In 2000, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but am now I am completely recovered. Next August we will celebrate our 30th anniversary.

Editor's note: Bob's story was written August 26 2003.
